The open-source TeX computer typesetting language is versioned in a similar fashion. To indicate that version 3 is the 'complete' version, with updates only fixing bugs and not adding new features, each new version has another digit added to the decimal part – 3, 3.1, 3.14, 3.141, etc. so that the version number asymptotically approaches .
The author, Donald Knuth, has said that on his death, the version number will be changed to itself, at which point all remaining bugs will be considered features.

I worked tech support for Google for a while. They had so much fun with model numbers and versions.
For example the Chromecast's part number was something like H2G242 (h2g2 is a common abbreviation for hitchhikers guide to the galaxy in certain corners of the Internet)
